Hyperboloid Sculpture, 3D Printed Math Art with Its Equation Engraved Under the Base

A curved shape made only of straight lines. Thirty-six straight rods, each turned a third of a circle, build a hyperboloid of one sheet: the shape of cooling towers and of the Shukhov radio tower in Moscow. Under the base we engraved the exact equation of this piece: x²/16² + y²/16² − z²/(15√3)² = 1. The 16 is the radius of the waist in millimetres. Two colours: • Gold on matte black: a gold lattice that sits in a separate matte black base, which carries the engraving. • Silk rainbow: one piece whose colour shifts from bottom to top, so no two prints look quite the same.
